Black-Belt Secret “Super Pressure Cooker Half Guard Pass” Technique to CRUSH the Guard Position

Hey BJJ’ers! I have REALLY been having a lot of success with a REALLY cool strategy against advanced competitors, and I would feel super out of flow if I didn’t share!  It’s a strategy I call “Step 2.” It’s generally a pretty simple Brazilian Jiu Jitsu strategy, but rest assured it’s super Cerebral and simple to perform (and very difficult to defend).

If you haven’t done a lick of guard passing training hop on over to this article. It will give you the basics of passing the guard. Although this material is easy to learn some BJJ knowledge s required.

In the attempt to keep this short and to the point, I’ll just sum it up for you. Ok, Here goes: Most advanced Brazilian Jiu Jitsu Practitioners already have a canned response for most “linear” attacks (ie normal straight forward guard passes). And because their canned response is so well practiced, and they have good timing, they will often get it. This will hold up your progression halting your guard pass by trapping you in Half-Guard and attacking you from there.

In other strategically unrelated situations they may just “Pull” Half-Guard as it’s a really dynamic/dangerous position. In either case, I teach my students and fighters to develop a REALLY tight Half-Guard Passing game AND BEAT THEIR OPPONENTS to it! That way the attacker’s Half-Guard is not as “settled,” and MUCH easier to pass.

The best way to make this strategy work is by “Faking” the “normal” pass. After you fake, then put yourself into the Half-Guard before your opponent can switch gameplans, and THEN begin your NEW pass!  It’s super dynamic, and the pass below is one of my HIGHEST PROBABILITY passes for this strategy because it shuts down ALL of your opponent’s defenses before they even materialize. Their head is controlled by the cross-face, and the blocking shin and the top leg control immobilizes their hips. The only ingredient left is a little self-control / timing, and a smile (the most important part)   😉

Drill, Explore, and add this strategy/technique to your BJJ gameplan to take your Guard Passing game to the next level. I know you’ll get a lot of mileage out of this one. Enjoy this step-by-step video and technique I call the “Super Pressure Cooker Half Guard Pass”…

Another really AWESOME strategy is to use the very same concept & move above with ONE slight modification:  Instead of forcing Half-Guard and beating your opponent to the punch, you can just change directions!

I know…. It sounds easy…. and IT IS! I’ve used this concept with a SUPER high probability against some really high level training partners in and out of competition. Many of my students that train in my BJJ Club in Austin, TX agree that my training strategies on their Dynamic Guard Passing is why my students have a whopping 100% medal rate! That means EVERY student that competes has medaled (mostly GOLD), and more often than not in stacked divisions amassing almost 50 medals and belts.

The core of this Guard Passing strategy is to “convince” your opponent to defend your guard pass in one direction, and then change directions once they have passed the “Point of no Return”. There are lots of way to execute and train this strategy. Below I’ve added a video of one example of this Guard passing strategy just to share with you my friends!

But don’t forget this is supposed to be the gentle art, which means with this strategy you are OUT-THINKING your opponent! So you will have to refrain from overcommitting to your Guard Pass yourself. The other side of this strategy is that because they are overcommitting and changing directions in a place where it is difficult for them to move, they are often stuck!

Im making an entire series about this stategy inside of CerebralBJJ.com to share with anyone interested in making their Guard Passing game smarter, more dynamic, and MORE CEREBRAL!

Keep training and keep growing your game! Osss!  :)
